10 Habits of Highly Effective Groups
10 Habits of Highly Effective Groups
I have visited a lot of meetings over the last year and have seen some really great meetings but have also been to some not-so-great meetings. Here are some things I’ve noted that some of our best groups do to make sure they are successful (in no particular order).
1) Be timely – Show up on time (or early if you have guests coming). Treat your meetings like you would a business meeting.
2) Have a process for welcoming guests. Make sure they have a contact person before the meeting so they have someone they can reach out to if they have trouble finding the meeting room, etc. I visited a group once where the Recruitment Chair welcomed me at the door and showed me where to go – it was a warm gesture and made me instantly feel comfortable.
3) Tell stories – whether it’s in your presentation or 60 second outro, stories stick in people’s minds. The more entertaining the better.
4) Log Referrals and Revenue – this is where you will see what your return on investment is, and what Bart and I look at when seeing where you all need help. When guests are visiting, they want to see that the group is productive.
5) Take care of your REALTOR. The realtor spot is so important to the rest of the group and often they are sending the most referrals. If the realtor is not getting leads from the group, the whole group suffers. The expectation is that each member sends the realtor 1 referral per year.
6) Have a quarterly Social Event. I have seen groups go to Top Golf, Breakout Rooms, cookouts, etc. I love seeing you all get together and having a good time!
7) Have questions ready for the speaker – even if you already know the answer, give your speaker the opportunity to talk to the room about something you know they are great at. You can also offer testimonials at this time.
8) Use your Education Spots wisely – think about what the group needs to focus on and tailor your Education Spots to that need. Reach out to Bart or myself and we can create new ones if we don’t already have something on that topic.
9) Don’t BS – use real numbers and send quality referrals.
10) Ask for help! If you are struggling to send/receive referrals, recruit, or need help with your presentations, etc. please reach out and we will do our very best to help guide you in the best direction.
*During your discussion on this topic, I suggest picking 2 or 3 things from this list to work on as a group.
Let me know how it goes!
